It’s That Time Again!*

October 6, 2012
8 days shy of 15 months
Mila already has lots of Halloween attire.

By this time, most years, I’ve already figured out what I’m going to be for Halloween AND have begun to make my costume. Not this year, however. The furthest I’ve gotten was Mila choosing her own costume – a bumblebee. So where’s that leave me? Should I do something that relates to her – a flower, a stinger, a beehive, a larger bumblebee? I have not a clue.

I don’t even have my decorations out of storage and I’ve decided not to have my annual Halloween party this year, (the first time in 4 or 5 years I’ll break my tradition). It’s just too much. Too much money for someone who’s unemployed; too much energy for a mother chasing a one-year-old daily; too much cleaning, because the house has to be tip-top before the party and there’s always a mess after the party; too much effort for a few-hour event. It makes me tired just thinking about it!

Could I have possibly grown too old for Halloween?

Naaaah!

Lesson #120: Silence Isn’t Always Golden

When your baby’s quiet is when you need to worry.

I was cleaning while Mila was playing throughout the two rooms connected to the kitchen. I listened to her walk around and pick up and drop toys, push buttons, plays music and roll cars across the hardwood floors. Then all of a sudden there was nothing. Not a single sound in the entire house. My suspicions grew as I walked into the other room to find her just standing at the window, her back to me. I walked up to her and realized why she was so quiet: she had gotten ahold of one of my small tomatoes and had squished it in her hand, on her clothes and all over the windowsill. Nice, kid. Real nice.

Funny, 2 months after this post, I found this:

She So Boldly Went

It only took 11 months and 8 days. I’ve been told over and over by many to always carry an extra set of clothes — for me! Thank goodness I was at home because Mila just pooed ALL over the both of us.

I have no idea how it happened. I grabbed her to change her and thought, oh yeah, you pooped. Oh my, it’s strong! Oh, wait, what the…. Yep, all over my pants and shirt and her outfit too!

Well put, Star Trek.
